Our route development team is dedicated to helping you to develop new routes and to promote them across the Danish and Swedish markets. No other airport in Northern Europe serves more destinations, welcomes more passengers or provides such well-supported infrastructure, and we’re always looking for new ways to help you meet your goals.

The annual Routes Europe Awards are your chance to shine a spotlight on the airports meeting your needs when it comes to marketing initiatives and results. The awards are now open, and we would really appreciate your vote. Head to Routesonline to vote now!

2019 was a great year for Copenhagen Airport and our airline partners, with 32 new routes opened, 17 new destinations, and more than 30 million passengers coming through CPH Airport! Below are some more 2019 highlights for our marketing initiatives.

Reaching Danes and Swedes who love to travel

In 2019, 21 new routes were showcased on our homepage, which in total generated more than 11k total click-throughs to the different airlines’ websites. These routes are prominently placed on our website, providing many more additional impressions.

We ran six airline competitions across our social media channels and B2C newsletter. Our newsletter has more than 250,000 Danish subscribers, and generated up to a 19.7% unique opening rate and 32.7% unique click-through rate for the competitions. On Facebook, the six competitions had a combined reach of over 3.6 million people.

11 different destinations were highlighted as destination inspiration posts across our social media channels and B2C newsletter. Ten were posted to our award-winning Facebook page, where they achieved a combined organic reach of more than 273k people (12.5k - 68.5k per post).

We also streamed six Facebook Live videos related to airline marketing, with an average reach of more than 58k and a 10% engagement rate. One of the most successful Live videos featured a tour of SAS’ new A350, with a reach of more than 64k and an 11% engagement rate. Other Facebook videos included a collaboration with PlanesWeekly, who run a YouTube channel for plane spotters, that reached more than 42k people.

In total, 2019 saw 142 posts across our Twitter, Instagram and Facebook channels dedicated to inspiring our followers to travel and raising awareness on behalf of airlines.

More initiatives facilitating route development

In April, we hosted our annual workshop for travel agents and airlines. The event is a full day session for travel agents and airlines to meet 1-2-1, ending with a networking dinner – all free of charge for participants. It’s our way to help airlines meet Danish travel agents to make agreements such as seat allotments, or for airlines to talk about interline agreements. We’ve hosted this event for 13 consecutive years, and the event continues to grow. From 2020, the event has been renamed to ‘Travel Agents & Interline Workshop’.

Throughout the year, we also helped with and hosted a total of nine gate events in collaboration with our airline partners, most recently celebrating Singapore Airlines and SAS introducing the new A350 on some of their long-haul routes. It’s always a pleasure to celebrate important milestones and occasions with our airline partners!

2019 also saw the launch of our new B2B concept, Copenhagen Connections, with a landing page, newsletter and LinkedIn page updated with news, trends and forecasting. We hope this will make our route development initiatives more transparent, and make it easier for airline partners to get relevant information from our route development team.
